Bird Of Prey Experience Days: This full day falconry hunting experience in Oxford gives you the rare chance to see beautiful birds of prey exhibiting their power and incredible speed, and doing what they do best – catching their prey. To begin the experience you’ll have an introduction to the falconry centre and the birds that live there as well as a demonstration on handling the birds. Most of the Hunt Experience takes place off site, however, as during this full day experience you’ll head out with a team of hunting hawks to do what falconers do – walk for miles with the hawks, beat for them to rouse some prey, help with the ferrets (yes, ferrets and hawks work together to hunt), and just watch the birds’ incredible speed and agility as they work. The falconry centre has access to a huge amount of hunting ground – over five thousand acres – so be prepared for a good long walk; during the full day you can expect to cover around 6 miles. This hunting day will showcase exactly what these birds are designed to do, so you really couldn't ask for a more perfect or authentic falconry experience. The birds go for things like rabbit, hare and pheasant, and while there are no guarantees they tend to be very successful hunters - so you are likely to see a kill! The day ends with a demo on how to prepare what the hawks have caught.
